It is a voluntary participation program aimed at providing guidance and support among university students. During the first semester of the current academic year, second-year or higher students (mentors) guide newly recruited students (mentees) with the help of a tutor. In return, the mentor receives a certificate recognizing two credits for participation in university activities. The mentee receives support from a student from the same school and preferably from the same degree program.
Specifically, this program aims to develop a guidance and support service for new students through a peer mentoring system, in which an upper-year student (student mentor) advises new students (mentored students). In turn, student mentors are coordinated by faculty tutors. This work will allow mentored students (newcomers) to:
- Adapt better to university life.
- Learn about academic aspects such as the study plan, schedules, group changes, exam calls, and student delegation, and gain access to academic resources such as the use of the university library, exchange programs, etc.
- Manage administrative aspects such as requesting academic certifications, using the online portal, etc.
- Achieve greater integration into the social life of the university.
For their part, student mentors will be able to develop the following skills:
- Social skills.
- Leadership.
- Commitment.
- Solidarity.
- Teamwork.
Students who participate as mentors will receive academic recognition of 2 ECTS credits for their work, with a certificate issued by the ULPGC.
